As one of the largest and most active hospital volunteer programs in California, more than 780 adult and student volunteers contribute more than 109,000 hours of service to our hospital and community each year.. Volunteer Programs: Adult Volunteer; College Student Volunteer; Junior Volunteer
Volunteer Placements/Services: Assisting staff on patient floors and intensive care units; Greeting and escorting patients and visitors; Helping raise funds to support hospital programs; Providing clerical support to hospital departments; Providing music therapy in the physical rehabilitation unit; Running errands for hospital departments; Staffing an on-campus shuttle for patients, visitors and employees; Staffing the Grossmont Hospital Auxiliary's two gift shops and the Thrift Korral - a thrift shop and boutique in La Mesa; Visiting patients as 'TLC volunteers' or with our Mended Hearts, pet therapy and clown therapy programs
Application Process: How to become an adult or college student volunteer: After your application is processed and accepted, these are your next steps toward becoming a volunteer with us: Attend a two-hour orientation; During orientation, schedule a 30-minute personal interview with the volunteer services staff to discuss placement options; Complete a two-step TB test and health screening at Sharp Grossmont's Employee and Occupational Health Department; Attend a two-hour new volunteer general training; Receive on-the-job training in your volunteer position. How to become a junior volunteer: After your application is processed and accepted, these are your next steps toward becoming a junior volunteer with us; High school candidates who submit a completed application, fulfill minimum requirements and submit the essay and counselor form will be scheduled for a 30-minute interview to discuss placement options; Attend a two-hour orientation with a parent or guardian; Complete a two-step TB test and health screening at Sharp Grossmont's Employee Occupational Health Department; Attend a two-and-a-half hour new volunteer general training; Receive on-the-job training in your volunteer position
