Volunteer Information: Volunteering at Alameda Hospital operates through the Alameda Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. Since the Auxiliary’s inception in 1954, members have donated more than one million hours of service, and many volunteers have been with the Auxiliary from the start. Over the years, through Gift Shop proceeds and fundraisers, the Auxiliary also has graciously donated more than $1 million to Alameda Hospital.. Application Process: Step 1: Before you apply - Volunteers must be 21 years or older. We require a minimum of one hundred hours of service within one year. Step 2: Submit application - You may download an application here. At this time, we require all prospective volunteers to turn in their volunteer applications in one of two ways: 1. Bring in the completed application in person to the Volunteer Department between the hours of 8 a.m.-noon. If no one is available to receive your application, please leave your application in an envelope in the mail slot next to the door of the Volunteer Office at Alameda Hospital. 2. Mail the completed application to the following address: Alameda Hospital c/o Volunteer Department, 2070 Clinton Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501. Step 3: Interviews - Once your application is reviewed we will contact you to set up an interview within one to two weeks. Step 4: Orientation - If you are accepted into the Alameda Hospital Auxiliary, you will be invited to one of our New Volunteer Orientations. Orientations are approximately four hours long and cover both hospital and Volunteer Department policies and procedures and other important information. Step 5: Background investigation - Potential volunteers will be asked to authorize a background check before they can be accepted as a volunteer. This form will be provided at the New Volunteer Orientation. Step 6: Health screening - After orientation you will make a health screening appointment with Employee Health. You must bring the following documentation to your health screening appointment: Documentation of two-step tuberculosis skin test (TST) performed elsewhere. One can be within the previous 12 months; the second test must have been within the past three months. Alameda Health System can provide the second TST, if needed. For anyone with a documented history of a positive TST, a chest X-ray done within the last 12 months will be required. A chest X-ray may be obtained at your primary care provider's office. Proof of immunity either by immunization records, and or titer(s)–blood test, must be provided for Measles (rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella (chicken pox). Those with records of Hepatitis B vaccine and Tetanus, Diphtheria, Adacel Pertussis (Tdap) should bring copies to be filed. Influenza vaccine is mandatory for all volunteers during flu season (Nov. 1-March 31). Step 7: Now, you can get your badge and start your training!
