Volunteer Information:
<p>Be a volunteer at Banner Desert Medical Center and Cardon Children's Medical Center At Banner Desert and Cardon Children’s Medical Centers, our volunteers are an important part of our hospital care team. The first step to learn about becoming a hospital volunteer is to attend a monthly information session. This is how interested individuals will learn about what it takes to become a volunteer. Due to the in-depth nature of the application and training process, as well as the costs involved, we require a six-month commitment. Volunteers are required to commit to a regular and consistent volunteer schedule. Minimum age to volunteer is 16 in selected departments. The hospital cannot accept volunteers for mandated court-ordered community service. TB Test and Immunization Records Those selected for the volunteer program will be required to complete a free health screening, including a two-step TB skin test. If you have ever tested positive for TB, you will need to have a physician’s statement indicating the results of your most recent chest X-ray. Banner Health offers these health screenings free through its Occupational Health clinics, located on the Banner Desert campus. The flu shot vaccination is a required vaccination during flu season. You will be required to provide immunization records during the health screening. If you do not have proof of these immunizations, Occupational Health will draw labs to determine if a vaccine is needed. The health screenings are MANDATORY as they provide Banner Desert with vital health information to best protect our patients, and our volunteers, from disease. If you have questions about the Health Screening, please call the Occupational Health Office at (480) 412-3275. The hospital requires each individual to undergo a background screen before being cleared to volunteer. To be accepted into the Volunteer Program, you must adhere to these requirements. If you are interested in attending a monthly information session, please send an email. Tips for Volunteers Know what you want to get out of volunteering. You can volunteer in order to make a contribution, advance your career, meet new friends, gain recognition, or simply enjoy the personal satisfaction that comes from helping others. Check the time it takes to do a particular volunteer job. How does the time commitment fit your schedule and lifestyle? Think about your skills, interests, and life experiences and how they could be useful in a volunteer setting. Be open and honest about your desire for meaningful and satisfying work and the need to have acceptance and respect of the staff. Be willing to give and take honest feedback in your volunteer role, and, when necessary, to be an advocate for change. Respect confidentiality related to your volunteer placement. Most important of all, bring your heart and your sense of humor to your volunteer service, along with the enthusiastic spirit which is, in itself, a priceless gift.
