Volunteer Information: South Miami Hospital’s warm environment and focus on patient care and customer service makes it a great place to volunteer your time. Our volunteers work at the information desk, in nursing units, at the Gift Shop and in various departments throughout the hospital. Volunteering is a wonderful way to learn new job skills, meet new people and feel good about helping others.. Volunteer Programs: Adult Volunteers; College Volunteer Program; Teen Volunteer Program
Application Process: Adult Volunteer: Complete and submit an application; Schedule an interview with South Miami Hospital Volunteer Services; Attend an orientation session; Provide one reference letter; Consent to a background check; Be able to speak and read basic English; Complete a self study; Be tested for tuberculosis; Receive an influenza vaccination; Commit to work a minimum of 2 to 4 consecutive hours per week, always on the same day and time, for at least 6 months. College Student Volunteer: Complete and submit an application; Attend an orientation session and be interviewed to determine availability and areas of interest; Provide one reference letter from a teacher, college advisor, or employer; Consent to a background check; Be able to speak and read basic English; Complete a self study; Be tested for tuberculosis; Agree to receive an influenza vaccination; Commit to work a minimum of 2 to 4 consecutive hours per week, always on the same day and time; Teen Volunteer: Complete and submit an application; Schedule an interview with SMH Volunteer Services; Write an essay explaining why you want to become a Teen Volunteer at SMH; Provide a Reference Letter from a teacher, coach or school counselor; Attend an Orientation session and complete a Self-Study; Have a parent or legal guardian sign the Parental Permission to volunteer; Have an annual Tuberculin Skin test and flu vaccination (if working between October to March); Provide a copy of Birth Certificate; Be able to speak and read basic English; Commit to work once a week (Monday to Friday from 4 to 7pm, or weekends) for 3 consecutive hours, always on the same day and time, if in the After School Program, or according to the minimum requirements specified on the Summer Program.
