Volunteer Information: Volunteering can be a richly rewarding experience. From the first day Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital opened its doors, it has depended on the generosity of volunteers. Today Culbertson Memorial Hospital is building on that tradition of neighbors helping neighbors through the Friends of CMH program. The Friends of CMH program lets volunteers choose which project they would like to be involved in depending on how many hours they want to volunteer. We have daily patient escort and couriering positions as well as back up volunteers. Friends of CMH must be at least 18 years of age to enter the program. Some opportunities, such as our Patient Escort Program, require training in safety, infection control, patient confidentiality, and other important hospital policies, as well as committing to a regular schedule. Other opportunities, such as helping with our annual Chicken Noodle Dinner or Golf Tournament, only require volunteers at certain times of the year and training is not necessary.. Application Process: Getting Started: All Friends of CMH must be at least 18 years of age to enter the program. Friends of CMH are subject to the same health standards as CMH employees. Friends must complete a health questionnaire that will be kept on file. The hospital requires that all volunteers be screened for TB (tuberculosis) at the time of initial assignment to establish whether the volunteer has active TB or has been previously exposed and built up antibodies. CMH will perform this screening at no charge. If you prefer, you may receive the screening through your own primary care provider. However, it is important to note that costs for TB tests will vary among medical providers and are expensive. Insurance plans often do not cover these tests. These charges will be the responsibility of the new volunteer and not the responsibility of the Friends of CMH program. Friends have a responsibility to the overall infection control plan of CMH. In addition to observing good hand washing techniques and other preventive measures while on duty at the hospital, volunteers should not report for duty when manifesting symptoms of illness. If you are accepted into the program, you will: Complete a Criminal Background Check Form. (All staff and volunteers are subject to a Criminal Background check.); Begin job training for the position to which you will be assigned. Each placement has a distinct training and start-up procedure. Some placements require that you attend another orientation in the department you will be volunteering in before your training. Other placements require that you "shadow" a seasoned volunteer in the placement that you are entering to learn the skills that are needed to perform the job; The final step is to ensure that all of your records (medical and criminal) are in place before you begin volunteering. Once all of the documents are received, you will proceed with your placement orientation.
