Volunteer Programs: Junior Volunteer Program; Adult Volunteer Program
Application Process: Junior Volunteer: Download and complete the CMMC Junior Volunteer Application and mail completed application to: Central Maine Medical Center, Volunteer Department, 300 Main Street, Lewiston, Maine 04240, Telephone: 207-795-2470, Email: batesca@cmhc.org. Applicants must submit a copy of their immunization records, a letter of reference, and permission slips with their application. An interview is also part of the process. Adult Volunteers: Prospective CMMC volunteers must first complete a Volunteer Services application. (Job shadowers, interns and practicum students, as well as any applicant born after January 1, 1957, must provide a current copy of his/her immunization records.) Applicants will be contacted by telephone by the Volunteer Services director to schedule an interview. Interviews, which last about 45 minutes, help determine appropriate placement at CMMC. Volunteers will be asked to discuss their health history during the initial interview. Also, anyone who becomes a volunteer must have an annual TB screening. The test involves a relatively painless prick in the skin of the forearm. The applicant must report back to the Employee Occupational Health Office about 48 hours later for a follow-up check. Most TB screenings result in a normal reading; however, if the TB screen is abnormal or if the volunteer is unable to have a TB skin test, a chest x-ray will be required. The initial screening and annually follow-up screenings are provided free of charge.
