Volunteer Information: Our volunteers come from all walks of life. They are a blend of people who share a common purpose - helping others by giving of themselves. South Georgia Medical Center Volunteers are caring individuals who want to help others, are responsible and mature, and comply with hospital guidelines. While volunteering time to our community of care providers, you will become part of a unique group which is committed to our "customer service absolutes" by offering a personal and compassionate approach. Through your dedication as an SGMC Volunteer, you will help provide a personal touch appreciated by patients, visitors, guests and staff.. Volunteer Placements/Services: Assist employees, patients and visitors in inpatient and outpatient areas; Provide clerical assistance in hospital administration offices; Greet and guide guests and families throughout the facility with our “First Impressions†Program; Use your creative and musical skills with in our Art & Soul Program; Let your best friend take you for weekly walks in the Pet Therapy Program
Application Process: You will begin with the completion and submission of the Volunteer application. Once the application is received in Volunteer Services, contact will be made via email to schedule a brief “meet and greet†session. “Meet and greet†sessions are conducted with Volunteer Services. During this time we will review areas for placement, times you will be available to volunteer, and answer any questions you may have. Please allot a minimum of 1 hour for your appointment. After the “meet and greet†is complete and it is determined you are fit for the Auxiliary, you will go to the hospital’s HR department in the Doctor’s Building to request a background check. This process normally takes 2-3 business days for results to be returned. When Volunteer Services has received clearance on the background check, you will receive a call with direction on completing your Health Screening and securing Credentials. You will first return to HR to pick-up your ID badge. Once you’ve picked up your credentials, you will step into Employee Health (directly across from Personnel/HR) to have a 1 or 2-step TB screening administered (TB requirements are set and managed by Employee Health). The 1st step of the screening will need to be “read†two days later. If a 2-step is required, upon returning for your first reading the 2nd step will be administered. After your first reading please contact Volunteer Services to confirm the reading is complete so that we may confirm with Employee Health. This will allow us to schedule you for your first day of service. If a 2-step TB is required, your placement in the program will be tentative pending your final reading which will likely occur during your first week of volunteering. Upon completion of all program entry requirements you will receive a final email from Volunteer Services with your options to attend the classroom orientation. We welcome you to our Volunteer program and look forward to a long and satisfying relationship with you. It is our goal to make your volunteer service a fulfilling and memorable experience for you and those we serve.
