Volunteer Information: At Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children's Hospital - Park Ridge, volunteers are a vital part of the health care team. Each year, over 1000 volunteers contribute over 100,000 hours of service to the hospital. Their selfless dedication of time and talent makes a significant contribution to the quality of care provided to patients and guests alike. We welcome all volunteers age 16 and older, and we ask for a minimum commitment of four hours per week for six months. In addition, we offer a special summer service program for students.. Application Process: 1. Fill out an application. 2. Upon the receipt of your application, we will review it based on your interests, availability and our current openings. If we determine a match, we will contact you for an interview. Please keep in mind - as much as we would like to accommodate all candidates, we are not able to accept everyone. 3. As part of the interview, we will discuss your placement and schedule. Most placements have a set schedule (same day/time every week). If you don’t think you can commit to a set schedule due to your other responsibilities, please let us know so we can assign you an opportunity that allows for flexibility. 4. After an interview and acceptance into the program, all candidates will be asked to complete the following requirements prior to starting volunteering: 1. Complete a 1-hour new volunteer online orientation. This new volunteer handbook is for your reference and includes material covered in the orientation. 2. Complete a free-of-charge medical screening* at our Employee Health office that includes: 1. Two-step TB (tuberculosis) test 2. Proof of vaccinations (for those born after 1/31/1957) that include varicella, MMR and tdap, or agree to receive those vaccines at our facility (free of charge) 3. Proof of influenza (flu) vaccine or agree to receive one at our facility (free of charge) during the flu season (usually October through March). If you have a medical or religious reason for not getting a flu shot, we will ask you to fill out an exemption form. If you are 16 or 17 years old, please have your parent/guardian fill out and sign a Minor Consent Form and bring it with you to your first visit with the Employee Health. 3. Consent to a criminal background check. 5. And you are now ready to start volunteering!
